Why Is Mickey Mouse So Funny

Mickey Mouse (TV Series 2013–2019) Poster

Why all the hate? THIS IS A GREAT SHOW!

I'm not a kid. But I totally imagine being a kid and getting greatly amused by this new version of Mickey Mouse, when my kids watch it.

I'm not kidding, the new 'Mickey' series is like a tribute to arguably the most recognizable icons of animation, the mouse himself, Mickey! While some may believe that the modernized humor strays far from Mickey Mouse's original charm, but I think it's all the same.

The originals were known for their unusual, humorous situations, and tongue-in-cheek, purely slapstick, humor. It made a kid revel in the character of Mickey Mouse, the energetic, genuinely funny cartoon mouse.

And if you look at the new interpretation, it's pretty much the same. Same funny situations, same funny outcomes, and most importantly, same funny character. Just look at Mickey, derping around. Mickey's all about having a good time, and that's what this show shows perfectly.

I can't compare this with the originals, because of the modernized sense of humor, but still, this is the show for the generation. My kids love this show, and I do too, and for darn good reasons.

Best modern rendition of Mickey and co.

This is probably the show that made me laugh the most. Its setting in different places on the earth with improbably silly situations visualised in great slapstick humor is a whole lot of fun for all ages.

It is a stylised rendition which aims to look like the old cartoons and I found it welcome in our present day as a way to honour the roots of animation. The series still uses elements of CGI, but not in a way that sticks awkwardly out.

Some of Disney's well known characters frequently make cameos in the series, too. See it and you will experience cleverly made comedic situations with other beloved characters.

I find this series hilarious, and if you like great slapstick humor, it is a must see.

A 'despicable, detestable, deplorable desecration of Walt Disney's early works'--and that might be why I enjoyed it so much!

One reviewer for this show clearly hated it. They describe it as 'despicable, detestable, deplorable desecration of Walt Disney's early works'. I can certainly understand WHY they felt that way, as the animation style is NOTHING like the classic Disney characters and it seems pretty cheap at first. And, I can certainly understand WHY they felt this way because the characters were doing many things that would make Walt spin in his grave like a rotisserie. Imagine having episodes with a zombie Goofy, Mickey and Donald trying to hide their nudity, dogs urinating, bites being bitten off Mickey's ear and a lot of very un-Disney-like violence!! It IS shocking and I could see how a purist would blanch at such things. However, I am NOT a Disney purist. Sure, I love the old cartoons but will quickly admit that Mickey's old cartoons were awfully sanitized--a bit too sanitized if you ask me. Rarely did Mickey have any sort of edge--that was left to Donald and, sometimes, Goofy. But here, Mickey is a rather impish character--more like you'd see in the very, very early Mickey cartoons and not the sweet and 100% wholesome guy you'd see in the 1930s to today! While the art style takes some getting used to, I can look past the cheap look. More importantly, as I sat and watched these cartoons during a recent Disney cruise (where they pipe them into the rooms), I found myself laughing louder than I ever have before with a cartoon. Imagine blending a bit of "Ren & Stimpy" with Mickey--that is what you'll find in "Mickey Mouse" (2013). I love them and want more!

Laugh out loud funny and beautiful art-style!

You don't expect a mega-monopoly company like Disney to do anything even a little bit far out, and they usually don't, but this excellent animation series dares to be silly and utilize a unique and beautiful (funny) art style. Actually it goes back to the roots of Disney animation because it's funny and not prudish and uptight like most Disney stuff quite soon turned into! (Ironically the creator of the series is named P.Rudish).

In my opinion this is the best thing they've done in a long time, it's so good it almost redeems Disney slightly for shutting down their traditional animation feature department. There's about ten episodes available on Youtube where I live and I laughed out loud several times in every episode and was amazed by the beautiful backgrounds and funny drawn characters. (I wonder when they will make the full series available in the Nordic countries).

Horrible

I don't like the animation I don't like the storyline. Unfortunately this is for the new generation I think. I'm not able to disassociate it from the older episodes.

Great series of Mickey Cartoons here

Warning: Spoilers

These are great Mickey Mouse cartoons. One of my favorite ones of this is the one where Mickey and Minnie are in Italy and Mickey wins Mickey over when he was alone in the boat and Minnie comes right up to it and they both sat in it and have a nice spaghetti dinner together. Those two are the luckiest mice in the world. Also I really loved the ending to the latest one which is the Hawaiian one right after the acua or whatever that spirit was called came and then Minnie comes singing the melody that Mickey was playing and Mickey sits beside her and they both sing it together which is very cute and romantic. Mickey and Minnie are the best fictional couple ever. Great cartoons here enough said.

Welcome Back to Disney Channel, Mickey

Warning: Spoilers

Mickey and friends are back, baby! WHEEEEEEEEE! They are free from the clubhouse prison, more or less. Those shorts I saw on internet and TV are the funniest shorts I've ever seen. Mickey Mouse is back as his mischievous self, but still a good guy. I'm not a fan of Goofy's redesign, but I get they just want him in a Dippy Dog version, but he's still Goofy no matter what he looks like. I don't agree that is like Ren & Stimpy because it's not meant to be like one. Yes, they get edgy sometimes and sometimes a bit gross, but I assure you it's not meant to be like Ren & Stimpy. I promise. Also, who knows, maybe they finally get their half hour TV series. But in the meantime, I will enjoy those shorts and cherish them on Itunes.

How do you like them apples, Hannah Montana? HEE HEE HEE!

Very much in the early spirit

I have to disagree with the negative critics here - if you know the personalities and zany spirit of the animators at Disney early on - these feel dead on. I can especially see Ward Kimball loving these.

This is *not* the Mickey and friends from the era where Mickey had been softened and made completely safe because he needed to be a protected corporate asset - these are the guys who were completely bonkers and stole people's hearts in the first place.

If you enjoy the *spirit* of the early cartoons, and can handle something classic being updated to fit with current times, then these are entirely delightful.

Hilarious

I'm old enough to remember classic cartoons (Disney and others) which were great, but these new ones are as good as the old ones were and maybe even better in some ways. I'm at Disney World right now at Pop Century watching them for the first time ever on their Disney Classic Cartoons channel and laughing hysterically. They remind me of Ren & Stimpy a little. I truly don't understand the person who said these cartoons aren't creative - huh? In my opinion these are some of the most creative cartoons I have ever seen - really over the top creative. People who are Disney purists who aren't open to anything new are the ones bashing this. I happen to love it (and can't wait for Star Wars land either)!

Hot Dog!!!!!!!😂😂😂

Before I thought Mickey Mouse was just ok and that he was for babies. Disney doesn't like to show their old cartoons for some reason. Do I grew up with crap like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. But after watching these I think wow Mickey Mouse is absolutely hilarious. These are some of the funniest cartoons ever. When ever I tell people Mickey is funny they say. Mickey he's for babies oh you mean the cartoony one that is funny.

Sicko Mouse

Warning: Spoilers

I've watched two or three episodes of this show, and I agree with the person who said that it looks like the people behind this are trying to give Walt Disney the middle finger. That's almost the same thing my wife said when she saw it...and our four year old looked scared or confused when it was on TV, so we turned it off.

At first, the high ratings and positive reviews for this show surprised me. Then I read more about the content (a pig who takes a dump on Goofy's head, peeing dogs) and saw some disturbing pictures (zombie Goofy), and now I know why so many people like it...people think it's hilarious when innocent stuff like Mickey Mouse is turned into something mean-spirited and twisted. Everything has to be primarily for adults these days, filled with innuendo and irony. Some adults have become playground bullies, they don't want to share Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck with "stupid babies".

This show almost makes me believe in that insane conspiracy theory which says that Disney is ruled by satanists. And it also makes me wish that the urban legend about Walt Disney and cryogenics is true...that old Walt, like King Arthur, is only asleep.

Mickey Mouse review

Mickey Mouse has been around with us for over eighty years in numerous shorts, films, parks, and merchandise. On June 28, 2013, a new series of Mickey Mouse shorts begun on Disney Channel starting off with 'No Service', a short starring Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Minnie, and Daisy.

In this series, Mickey and the gang, as well as the surroundings around them, have all been redesigned to feel a bit more modern, but yet still classic. The series maintains a pretty good ratings overall (example: IMBd 8.3/10) and has become main stream within the Disney fan base. The central theming of the D23 2015 Expo revolved around the newly designed characters of these shorts too!

The Mickey Mouse series has been running for about two years with three MickeyIconseasons. The cast includes:

Mickey Mouse - Chris Diamantopoulos Minnie Mouse - Russi Taylor Goofy - Bill Farmer Pluto - Bill Farmer Donald Duck - Tony Anselmo Daisy Duck - Tress MacNeille

In some episodes, they parody Disney films such as Snow White in the episode 'Wish Upon A Coin.' There are also many cameos within the series such as Gyro from 'DuckTales' and from the movie, 'Cinderella.'

Overall, the series has been greatly adored for its humor and charm, but has received some criticism especially for Goofy's redesign.

I personally love this series and I hope that you give it a try if you haven't already, its pretty. That said, Kingdom Hearts series and the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse preserves the Mickey House history better then this series with better plots.

The Best

The voices are spot on, better than who ever has been voicing Mickey, Donald and Mickey in recent times. I think whoever isn't liking these probably likes the bland, corporate, super PC, middle of the road crap Disney had been pushing from the 90's. The backgrounds are beautifully designed and the stories are wonderfully twisted.

The show is irreverent and classic. My kids love it as I do and we watch it with joy whenever a new episode comes out. Can wait for a DVD collection of the series comes out because I'm buying it! It is very reminiscent of the 1930's to 1960 era and often recalls back to it, I love how its multicultural showcasing Indian, Mexican, French ETC. cultures, locales and languages.

Our favorite episodes in order are:

1.Ghoul Friend 2.Mumbai Madness 3.Feliz Cumpleaños! 4.Ku'u Lei Melody

I weep for the world.

I saw one episode where Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy (or the show tries leading me to believe who they are) try looking for a fictitious theme park called "Potato Land" only to be in the middle of a potato farm. I have never felt so uncomfortable/embarrassed in all my life. I originally thought they were showing the old Mickey Mouse shorts from way back when (or at least pre-2009, at the latest). But again, I should have known better. I wholeheartedly agree with d_curlee85 and McFrogg on their reviews of that abomination--couldn't have said it better myself. The animation and character designs are a cruel sick joke, the characters themselves are not likeable in the slightest and are definitely NOT in-character, and the humor (or lack thereof) is as low-brow and stupid as that of SBSP (or worse). I haven't watched many of them (considering my first exposure to it), so I can't really say that I found anything redeemable--especially the animation/designs (sorry to be a broken record, but obvious flaws are obvious). While I do admit there MIGHT be some ideas similar to Mickey and Donald trying to make Goofy's dream (for lack of a better word) come to life in that potato episode, the show is downright visually unappealing and in the auditory sense nothing but noise pollution.

These episodes--the entire show--is a complete fail! If you want to watch a good Mickey Mouse related cartoon, I recommend sticking to the original shorts, the House of Mouse series spin-off, and the older movies like the Christmas ones or the Three Musketeers.

Brush strokes from Nickelodeon

I'm a big fan of Disney, all this years Disney has been one of the best things ever. But this show is in my opinion silly. The humor is constantly and absolutely disgusting, the design characters are so goofy and to me is kinda embarrassing to the Disney tone. If he replaces this series with a key dummy, no one will understand the difference.

The typical modern animated show

The rules of the modern animated show: 1-cheap flash animation, 2-unlikable characters, 3-annoyingly hysterical actions, 4-crass humor. And even Mickey Mouse, the most charming of all cartoons, the Charlie Chaplin of animation, sold his artistic soul to follow the trend of the worst empty era of cartoons history(2010-).

Now, I love absurd shows like Dexter's Lab, Cow & Chicken, Ren & Stimpy, but just like any show after 2010, even this Mickey series tried to copy their modern and "subversive" style. The problem, anyway, is not the act of copying, but the way one does it: this Mickey series is just a carbon copy of that Cartoon Network humor and irony, and adds nothing. Watching this series there's nothing, NOTHING more; and that's why it doesn't even feel genuine in its gags and situations: it's so mechanically based on others already seen style that every time I guess exactly what will happen: the gag, the facial expression.. everything. It's really just a mechanical copy, with no Disney touch(with no touch whatsoever).

I remember the old days: nobody had a more perfected and developed identity than Disney and its shows, even when they modernized themselves; but it's clearly not the case anymore. The point is simple: if this show had not characters with the look of Mickey, Goofy, and Donald in it, nobody cared to watch it.

PS: Goofy from this series is one of the worst character of cartoon history

A Saving Grace for Disney (aka My first review)

My sister and I have been a fan of Mickey Mouse ever since we were young. When this first aired , I used to have very little interest in it. And after watching a few of the Mickey Mouse Shorts, I started to be interested in it.

At times, the humor is funny, but sometimes not. The storyline for each episode is interesting and cool. And the characters are likable.

From what we have today such as the stupid "I didn't do it" show, Mickey Mouse Shorts is one of the best shows/shorts in 2010-2015.

(P.S: My sister's favorite episode is "New York Weenie", while I like "No Service")

Poorly animated, not at all like the classic Mickey

I agree with d_curlee85. These new Mickey Mouse shorts are nothing like the classic Mickey. They look cheap, and the drawings look like a child was trying to copy Mickey, which might sometimes work in front view, but not when the characters move their heads. The movements aren't round either, I bet there are no 24-25 frames/second. This seems to be made quick and dirty by people who don't know Mickey from his golden age. If at all it more resembles the comic book Mickey than the movie Mickey. Disney should have kept the good animators like Andreas Deja oder Glen Keane. Especially Deja had done Mickey shorts before, which were brilliant.

This is just the cheap TV animation junk that you get by the dozen. Mickey became famous because he was nothing like the cheap animation of his time, but was done with care and high quality. Maybe Disney should think about this aspect of Mickey's history as well. But by the looks of these cartoons, nobody at Disney seems to remember Mickey's history...

Not at all like Disney's earlier cartoons.

Last time I wrote a review on this, I realized I was not critical enough and that I was too emotional. But, my statement still stands: I do not like this new "Mickey Mouse" series for a number of reasons.

1. It's rushed. The stories are contrived as they often have to rely on horrifying imagery and hammered-in gross-out jokes. Because, time is money. In fact, a lot of jokes and story elements make no sense at all! Some of them are just there to make what little there is of a plot to work. (Sort of like what Roger Ebert would call an "idiot plot," in which all the characters would have to be idiots in order to make a film's plot work.)

2. The characters are unsightly and scary. I'm surprised nobody has said any of this, because I honestly felt uncomfortable when I saw these new character designs, especially Goofy. When I see different facial expressions (like when Minnie takes a bit out of a hot dog), something just came over me -- like I was watching MAD on Cartoon Network, when I wanted to watch a Disney cartoon. In other words, a feeling of uncleanliness. Not to mention some other characters look totally out of place. For example, in "New York Weenie," the lion at the very end looked like it came from a totally different cartoon or picture; it's like a different artist drew that lion and not even the animators did anything to fix it to fit their style. Even worse was when I saw Mickey in that same short: he looked very unnerving when he took on all the different savage-looking and stalker-ish expressions. Not once did I laugh. Which, somehow, brings me to my next point.

3. The characters are out of character. The people responsible for these cartoons obviously put a bare minimum amount of effort in doing their research on classic Disney characters. Heck, some of them don't appear until later shorts! It's like they were trying to hide their laziness in adding characters who would have fit roles better than the ones they used did. "No Service" is one such short where I saw a lot of out-of-character moments. Goofy, who runs a pier-side burger shack, acts like a bossy jerk. Donald is way too crude. Mickey is an idiot.

But, let's be more specific here. First off, who is Goofy? He's a humble, lovable dimwit with a sense of decency. Here, he's bossy, inconsiderate and scratches his belly button when he talks about class. Not to mention cross-dressing in Central Park. A million laughs.

Now, what about Donald? I mean, shoving his butt in Mickey's face? Making a butt innuendo joke? ("Look at those hot buns!" while Mickey, nude, is outside the restaurant, in particular.) And laughing at Mickey's misery as he is forced to streak the pier after deciding to take all Mickey's clothes just to get food? That is too crude. Donald Duck would pull pranks on other guys (especially little guys and his nephews), but he wouldn't deliberately embarrass, humiliate or hurt them. Unless he's angry, at least. But here, not once does Donald get ticked off. Right away, he is already rude and crude.

Next, let's focus on Mickey. He's mischievous yet innocent. He has a better conscience than Donald, and he certainly knows better than to cause problems of any kind. But, in these cartoons, he's just a trouble-making imp! I mean, peering into baby carriages? Agreeing to give away his clothes just so Donald can get lunch (stupid idea, in the first place)? And streaking along the pier? I mean, he could have just gone to get some spare clothes. Or he and Donald could have just not lend the other clothes and risk indecent exposure in a public place.

One last problem.

4. These cartoons are NOT funny. They have NO respect for Disney's visions and ideas of entertainment. They show NO consideration for their audience or their intelligence. They do NOT respect or understand the source material. They are offensive, vulgar, grotesque, nauseating and unnerving. It's just another sellout made to give the people responsible for these cartoons a quick buck. In fact, these "Mickey Mouse" cartoons may as well be the equivalent of the production staff's giving a giant middle finger to Walt Disney for his desire to share his visions with the rest of the world, and a giant middle finger to families everywhere for appreciating the actual cartoons and films that shaped their childhoods and helped define their personalities. Worst of all, the very thought of cartoons like this modern "Mickey Mouse" shaping the childhoods of today's young generation and defining their personalities induces as much lingering pain as an IBS attack.

Now, I'm not trying to be a Disney purist and I'm not saying all of Disney's works in the past were perfect. But, when Walt Disney and his Nine Old Men were around, they put a lot of effort into their works. Each past work is cleverly thought out, has a smooth quality of animation with an excellent pacing, provides plenty of laughs in a way that people will remember for years to come and -- most of all -- teaches morals in a timeless and captivating way or just tells clever jokes.

Disney's officials claim these new "Mickey Mouse" cartoons are a throwback to the 1930s cartoons and follow the same formula Disney used in those cartoons. However, I find that to be an utter lie. We have seen many reincarnations of Mickey Mouse and his friends, all done by different people with their own styles and visions. Even video games like Kingdom Hearts still have something that preserves the integrity of Mickey Mouse and his friends. But, do these cartoons on Disney Channel and YouTube manage to preserve that same integrity? The answer to that question is a big, fat NO.

For some reason IMDb did not accept my first review.

I don't understand why. But maybe it was they thought it was too long? Well in the previous review I mentioned I agree completely with the other three hated it reviews. While I don't think this show is quite as bad as Shake it Up or Dog with a Blog it's still awful. It's at least better than the horrible shows Nick has been giving us since 2008 but it's still awful. And it's boring. And I mentioned last time I hate how this is rated higher than Gordy even though Gordy is so much better! If it were up to me the rating for this show would switch with Gordy's. Because come on people. Gordy was adorable and heartwarming. I mentioned last time if you think Gordy sounded dark well many of Disney's movies have dark parts. I named a few examples but does IMDb think I went on a tangent or something? I don't know, I'm trying to make sure they accept it this time. Long story short I hate this is rated higher than Gordy or Teletubbies and I already reviewed both explaining why both deserve higher. And Liv and Maddie has the same as Rabbids Invasion at TV.com. I don't know why. I'd be like if they rated SpongeBob the same as Breadwinners. But then again SpongeBob has awful episodes too but I think I went on a tangent about that too. I give this show a three because it's not as bad as Shake it Up or Dog with a Blog or any show on my list Worst new Nick shows since 2008. OK, this about it for me this time I don't want this review rejected. But to conclude I agree this is not a good show and I even didn't like the commercials for it. Whereas when I saw the commercials for Liv and Maddie I saw potential. So yeah I give this show a 2.75/10 and Liv and Maddie 9.75/10 because Liv and Maddie is so much better! And so's Teletubbies which I rate 8.75. That wraps this up please accept this IMDb this time!
